Tenuta Stevens rises in the countryside of Sannicola as the former hunting estate of the Stevens and Auverny families, consular households in nearby Gallipoli during the nineteenth century. In Contrada Li Cuti, the stay becomes more than a base for the sea: it is a place designed to restore both body and spirit.
The estate also inspired Sofia Stevens, daughter of vice consul Henry Stevens and noblewoman Carolina Auverny. Her poem dedicated to the little room in Li Cuti still conveys the intimate, cultured and slightly nostalgic tone of this country residence.
A tree-lined drive leads to the historic manor; behind it lies a lush garden filled with flowers and fruit trees. Healthy air, silence, a pool and Mediterranean light make the estate ideal for guests who want a more elegant and discreet Salento.

Alla mia stanzetta dei Cuti
Col tuo veron sporgente a mezzogiorno,
E la finestra aperta ad occidente,
Sempre, stanzetta, ti riveggo intorno;
Giacché ti pinge a l'anelante mente
Forte il desio di te, diletto nido,
Che m'albergasti a gioventù nascente....
Nitida stanza, quante a la mattina
M'assalser fole a gl'indecisi albori,
E quindi al soffio d'aria vespertina,
Tutta imbevuta di robusti odori,
Allor che riguardai vario screziate
Da cento e cento verecondi fiori
Del giardino le mura sollevate,
E di vilucchi audaci ricoperte,
Mi trasportar per balze imbalsamate
Le giovani ali de la mente aperte
Ed ivi gioie vidi, e vidi amore
Avvicinarsi con ridenti offerte.....
(Sofia Stevens)
The poem still shapes the imagination of the estate and preserves its most intimate and aristocratic atmosphere.
